NeverCharged Privacy Policy

Effective October 29, 2026 · applies to the NeverCharged extension for Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge

Short version: NeverCharged has no servers. Everything it reads and stores stays in your browser (and, only if you turn on sync, in your own browser account's sync). We never see, collect, sell or share your data.

What NeverCharged stores

The trials and subscriptions you choose to track (service name, website, dates, price, currency, billing period, status, price history) and your settings. This is kept in your browser's local extension storage. You can export it as JSON or delete it at any time in Settings. Uninstalling the extension removes it.

What NeverCharged reads

If you turn on auto-detect, or click Scan this page, NeverCharged reads the visible text of that page on your device to find free-trial terms and prices. It checks whether a payment form is present, but never reads what you type into it. Page text is processed in memory and discarded. It is never stored or transmitted.

Emails (optional)

If you turn on Trial emails in Gmail & Outlook, NeverCharged runs only on mail.google.com, outlook.live.com, outlook.office.com and outlook.office365.com. It reads the subject, sender and text of the single email you have open on screen, on your device, to recognise a free-trial confirmation. It never reads your inbox list, other emails or attachments, and never sends email content anywhere. If you choose to track the trial, only the details shown on the card are saved (service, sender's website, dates, price). NeverCharged also keeps a short anonymous fingerprint of the emails it has already offered, so it doesn't ask twice. You can switch this off at any time; that removes the access.

Still using it? (optional)

If you turn on Still using it?, the browser asks you to allow reading your browsing history. NeverCharged then looks up, on your device, only the most recent visit to the websites of the subscriptions you track (for example canva.com), keeps one date per website, and uses it to tell you when a subscription looks unused. It does not read, store or send any other history. Turning the option off removes the permission.

Sync between computers (optional)

If you turn on sync, your tracked items and a few settings are saved in your browser's built-in sync storage (Chrome or Edge account sync), so they appear on your other computers where you are signed in. That data is handled by Google or Microsoft under their browser sync terms; NeverCharged has no server and cannot see it. Page URLs and history data are never synced. Turning sync off stops uploads; use "Delete all" to remove the synced copy.

Calendar

"Add to calendar" opens Google Calendar or Outlook with the event details filled in, or saves an .ics file. Nothing is sent until you save the event in your calendar yourself.

On-device AI

Where your browser offers a built-in on-device language model (the Prompt API in Chrome or Edge), NeverCharged may pass a short excerpt of the page text to that model to read trial terms. The model runs locally on your device. NeverCharged sends nothing to any AI service or server.

What NeverCharged does not do

No accounts, no analytics, no tracking, no advertising, no third-party code. No data is sold, shared or used for any purpose other than reminding you about your trials and subscriptions. No data is used to determine creditworthiness or for lending.

Links that leave NeverCharged

Opening a cancel page or a "how to cancel" search takes you to that website or your default search engine. Their own privacy policies apply there.

Permissions

storage (save your list), alarms and notifications (reminders), activeTab and scripting (scan the page you choose), search (cancel-help search), offscreen (run the on-device model), optional access to all sites (only if you turn on auto-detect), optional access to Gmail and Outlook on the web (only if you turn on trial emails), and optional history access (only if you turn on "Still using it?"). You can turn any of them off at any time.
